Once bolts were removed I tilted the seat backwards. I was alone so it was kind of hard to get the seat out the door... |
Finally, front seat out of the car. A bit dirty but in really decent shape being 37 years old. |
The floor carpet was really dirty, but finally I have a lot of space to take care of the interior trim! |
Removed the cover below the dash on the drivers side. Just fitted with one screw in the middle. |
And then on the passenger side. This is what it looks like behind. |
Okay. So that's about it for today. I will try to be a little bit more active the next few weeks so stay with me. Any thoughts or ideas? Be sure to post a comment! Thank you all!
Glad the tip on the seat belt anchor bolt worked out!
ReplyDeleteThat wiring under the front seat is likely for the Safety Belt Warning System. This gives you a visual and audible warning when the car is started, someone is sitting in a front seat, and the belts are not buckled. In the U.S., this may have included a Starter Interlock to prevent the vehicle from staring until the belt(s) were fastened.
As for the rear seat...you need to remove the bottom cushion first. If you feel the shape of the rear seat cushion, you will be able to feel the wire frame around the edges of the seat, especially along the floor. You have to push in (toward the rear of the car) on that wire frame edge. Part of the wire frame is captured on a pair of hooks that are welded to the floor, one hook on each side, in about the middle of the seating surface on each side (cross-car). Push that wire frame back an inch or two, then lift up on the frame, and let it decompress/expand back toward the front of the car. Once both sides are off those hooks, the bottom cushion should come out.
Once the bottom cushion is removed, you'll be able to see how the bottom edge of the seat back cushion is retained. There will likely be two hoops that are part of the back cushion frame, one on each side of the car. There will either be flat metal tabs, welded to the rear axle tunnel (cross-car), that fit through the hoops and are folded over. Or, there will be bolts through those hoops into nuts welded to the floor. I can't remember which design the Cordoba used. Once you release those two hoops on the back cushion frame (bolts or tabs), the bottom of that cushion will now be free. But the top edge of the frame (up along the package shelf) will still be retained. These usually drop on to some tabs...you should be able to lift straight up on the frame, and lift it clear of these tabs.
